Our Dog Jake

We had casually been looking for "a dog" after a couple years of marriage. We were living in Las Vegas, NV and our lives had calmed down quite a bit now that we were both out of school and working in our careers.
We spent a Saturday looking online at the profiles for dogs available for adoption at the local shelters, but it didn't quite feel real. We had both grown up with large dogs but knew that wasn't realistic for our situation and felt like there weren't more than chihuahua to choose from with little dogs. So we kept looking. We went to a shelter and still no luck. Weeks we spent looking.
Then one day Bobbie got off work early and decided to just walk through the shelter. It felt like there were hundreds of dogs there, all adorable and needing a good home. She sent me some photos here and there of ones that fit our needs, seemingly a good fit for our home.
But then .. she sent me this picture above. I knew instantly that this was OUR dog. I told her he was the one. The way he reached for her in the picture I knew that he was sure she was the one too!
Later that evening we went back to the shelter together and took "Mango" for a little play date. He was so happy to be out of that cage and run around. He would run and sniff around, then come run back and check in with us. It was love at first sight for all of us!
We have been attached at the hip ever since, he is a huge part of our family. The nieces and nephews love him, even the ones who weren't fond of dogs before. Jake loves playing with kids and other dogs. He is so loving and couldn't hurt a fly!
He is in all of our family photos and sleeps with us at night. He protects us, plays with us and has been great practice in parenthood.
